It was a spontancous and geuerous aprising of the citizens of the metropolis to the assistanee of the youuper city of the lakes, i warm assuranee of the frleodliest feeling and arecognition of the national charaeter of the exposition. Letters of rejjret were received from ex-lresident Cleveland, Vice President Morton, ex-Mayor Ilewitt. Senator Daniels, of Virginia, and Richard Croker. Amonif the jfuesta present wcre the following: T. W. Palmer, prebident oí the national oommission of the World's Co.umbian exposition; W. T. Baker, president oí the World' Colunv bian ezposHlon; George R. Davis, director general of the World's Golumbian exposition; Terry Helmoiit, Hn. Hugh J. Grant, mayor of New York city; Thomas C. Platt, Ambrose Snow. president of the board of trade; J. Sioat Fassett, Samuel Sloan, John A. Kin?, !rc3ident of the LaUe Shore railroad; E. 1. VVilburg, president of the Lebeigh Valley ruilroad; Evnn Thomas, president of the produce exchne; Hon. Warner Miiler, Charles S. Smitli, president of the ohamber of comin .il Horace Povter, Gec-fte M. Pullman, Frank Thomson, of the Pennsylvania railroad, aud George B. Roberts, of the PennsylTanla railroad. Besides Mr. Depew the following named gentlemen made speeches; Hon. T. V. Palmer, Hon. Georjje R. Davis, Hou. Thomas M. Waller, Maj. M. P. Ihtndy, Gorton W. Allen, Ilon. W. T. Baker, president of the board of trade; John II. V. Arnold, Charles S. Bmith, J. Seaver Paffe and Jolm Koyd Thatcher.
