The latter, it appears, had boen ariested for attemptind to assassinaie the divoi-ced vvife of Sinith and niado a confession implicatinff the ex-husband and his son-iu-law. They were arrested and, with the negro, uore conflned in the jail at DeWitt. Monday raorning a mol) of masked men seized the jailcr, made him Seliver up the keys, after whieb lliey went to the cells of the prisonors and riddled thein with bullets. Sinith was game and tried to save tli.' lives of his eompanions by deelarinjf that lie alone was responsible for the deed, but the mob would not heed him and killed all three men.
