Some time ago a woman who had enlivened her circle of acquaintances in the east with noticeable gifts of conversation and appreeiation, a real lover of good folks, good manners and good talk, went to the Pacific coast with her husband, who was a inissionary there. Their one boy was not allowed to play ireeiy with the chüdren of the roug-h people among whom they worked, and often the mother and boy vvere left weeks alone, while the father was off on preaching tours. A favorito way of the monotony on the mother's part was to celébrate anniversaries by g-uests who couldn't come, and holding imag-inary eonversations at the table, the looks and characteristics of the mythical assembly, all of which mightily pleased the small boy, and one nig-ht, after his usual prayer, he added: "Oh, Lord, bless all my friends all 'round this world and teil 'cm if they'll be g-ood somebody'll come and see 'em- I'll come and see 'em myself. Amen." A bit of unconscious pathos that oug'ht to touch
