COL, SILLÜWAYE SPEAKS. What a Colonel of Gen. McCIellan's Staff Says. HE 8AVED PRESIDENT 1IJÍCOL.N FROM CAPTURE. He Was tlie PreserTer AIso oí John Jacob Astor. Col. William A. H. Sillowaye is 60 years oíd. He resides at Bellows Falls, Vt, and is connectfid with the Bellows F 'lis Times. He has sometbing of the most vital interest to Bay to his fellow 80 dier of the G. A. R , and to his fellow men the world over. In "Rifle Shots and Biillet Shelle," there can be found a sketch of Col. Sillowaye,wherein it is shownthat heindir(C'ly saved the Union,when, in 1863 he prevented the capture of Lincoln by the Confederates. He aleo saved John Jacob Astor from a similar fate in 1862, in the Peninsular campaign. Col. Sillowaye served four years and eight months in the army and navy during the war, and from April, 1861, to February, 1863, he served his country without pay or reward of any kind. He knew all the Union generáis and Secretary Stanton and Mr. Welles. He was üeutenant-eolonel on Gen. McClelian's staff in 1862. Col. Sillowaye is a practical printer, engineer and linguift. He has set up works in Greek, French, Spanih, Latín and Hebrew, He was employed during flve years at Oxford, Eng., on Homan's Greek Bible, and there, in 1859, the degree ot LL. D. wasconferred upon him. His first wife was a daughter of Sir Williatn Blackie and niece of Sir Richard Houghton. His present wife is a relative of Hon. William M. Kvarte, and a very gifted lady. Col. Sillowaye is a very modefct man, and only coneented to talk to the writer afier it was shown that it would be criminal for him to keep his knowledge to himself while other.í snffered. So here is his story as it feil from his lipe. He saw it written out and he indorsed every word of it. "On the 19ih of April, 1861, I enlisted in the arrny of the Koith. I weighed 162 pounds. After serving four years and eight months iu the army and navy, and Bn Sering from wounds and rheumutism I was dischanrsd. I weghed tbe day I was discharged 109 pounds. COL. SILLOWAYE Every year I liad attacks of nervous prostration; shortmss of breath, and loss of appetite were not the least of my misfortunes. I tried numberless things. Nothing diil me any good. While employed in Boston, I was compelled to re?ign my position on account of il) health. I conmlted several eminent plivaician ind took their medicines. No use- I grew worse day after day.
