The three days' conference at Cleveland between striking coal miners and operators to settle the huge strike in the coal districts of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Indiana resulted in a first-class fizzle, as neither side would raake concessions on the wage scale. The operators wanted to make the scale 68 cents for I'ennsylvania, 56 cents for Hocking Valley and other di-stricts in proportion. The rainers stood firm for 70 and 79 cents.
