Edward J. Twiss, who was a student in the Law Department last year, re" turncd to Ann Arbor last week and took rooms with Mrs. A. G. Hirsch, of No. 14 S. Ingalls-st. He had lived at the same place whilo in school. He had been dissipating for several days i i Detroit before ooming here and had been arrested there for drunkenne99, but for some reason was not fined. When he reached Ann Arbor, he was only snfficiently recovered f rom his d -inking ,to be oxceedin gly blue and depressed. This depression evidently got the better of him. Sunday morning he wont to H. J. Brown's drug store and purchased two dozen one-half grain morphine capsules stating that he wished it for a severe headache. Ileturning to hit) room he took the entire twentyfour. About noon the family found him in an unconcious state. Doctors Lynds, Houghton and Harmon were called bu it was too late to save his iife. Sunday afternoon Coroner Ball summoned a jury who decided that tho deceased carne to his death by his own hand. The only reason to which such an act can be attributed was despondency. He eft the following letter addressed to his mother : Mamma: Treat Hirsch's folks kindly, they were good to me; treat (a young lady friend) well, I loved her, she was more to me than anyone else in the world. I am going to Wiil (a brother who recently died.) Am tired of living When you have put me in the grave, use Mrs. Hirsch kindly. She treated me well. Good-bye. ED." The deceased was the son of well to do parents ín Port Huron, Mich., his father being an Alderman in that city A Mr. Whipple, a friend of the family, eame to the city Monday and took the retnains to Port Huron.
