Manchester Enterprise. Last Friday morning was tho coldest f the season so far, the thermometer indicating tí degroes below 0. The southern Washtenaw farmers' Mutual fire inaurance company held its uinual meeting on Saturday last and re-elected its otlioers. The Enterprise gives its readers more good reading matter than any ther paper in this section. We boast f this but are ablo to prove it. A. P. Freoman has associated with kim ia the lavv and insurance business, JPVed M. Freeman, and the new firm will 1 known as Freeman & Freeman. A. Strong, of the Normal kas been elected treasurer of the Mieh igan Academy of Sciences. The Ypsilanti Machine Works hav teiured the contract for building a fifty barrel flouring mili near Ionia (no Owosöo, as the Times has it.) Ypsilanti's Mystic Shriners, Monday sent 66 baskets of provisions to as man; áeserving families. Eaoh contained 2 1-t. üour, Vi lbs. corn meal, ono-half Ib. tea, one lb. eoffee, two lbs. sugar, two lbs. crackers, can of oom, peck of potatoes, two lbs. of rolled oats, piece if meat for roast. Chelsea Herald. Our merchants contémplate cloaing their stores at 8 p. m. which is an exe sUeat idea. Steinbach's Hall was opened with a áance New Year's eve. About 50 of Cfaelsea's "400" participated. The Glazier Stove Company started their works last Wednesday with a 'orce of fifty men, which they expect to iacrease before the end of the year to one hundred. The company will build a foundry this year and do all their own casting. An old stove that was used in the basement of the Wood building to keep the onions that aro stored there f rom íreezing, set fire to the floor Wednesday morning. The fire was extinguished before any damage was done. Saline übserver. The Saline Farmers' club will meet at the home of L. Josonhans on Friday, Jan. llth. The annual election of olEcers will take place at this meeting. Having had a "hard times" social, the ladies of the Baptist society decided ■to have a change and will give a "good times" social at Mrs. R. Glasier 's on Wednesday evening, Jan. 9th. A serious and pitiful accident occurred at the home of Henry Schroen last Sunday afternoon. Two of his mail boys, Jake and Kd. went to the barn for some purpose and on reaehlng there they ehmed upon a scaffold and there entered into a scuffle which rollet them off and to the Hoor below, Jake landed heavily on both hands, breaking both arms square off just below the wrlst, his nose and lace were also badly bruised and soratched. Ed's f all was somewhat lighter, he being 4 years younger, however he struck foremost across the abdomen which has since eaused him to be eonsidered at times in a serious condition. His fever has run high and their is some inftammation. Dr. Nichols who was summoned reports bolh boys at this time doing as well as can be expected. Chelsea Standard. The Taylor brothers had their annual New Year's family reunión at the residence of Mrs. Hannah Taylor, one mile north of town, last Tuesday. T. B. Taylor, of Jackson, and John A. Taylor and wife of Unadilla were also present. Up to last Sunday morning the Congregational society were short about $1,300 of the amount needed to entirely pay for their new church edifico. On that day pledges to the amount of $779 were made. It is hoped to be able to have the society free from -debt on the day of dedication.
