The Lewis Art Collection reached Ann Arbor last Thursday. It va brought on a special train that eonsist ed of several carloads. The collection has been disposed of for the present bj being stoved In whatever available places could be spared for it about the Univ-ersity buildings. This colloction is one of the most valuable gifts the üniversity has ever received. It vvill. howeverbe of little, or no use to the institution until a suitable for its proper display can be erected. Where the means to ereet a suitable for this purpose vvül come f rem and when they will be forthcomiag are questkras it may takeyears to answer. It Ls hoped. hovvever, that another Waterman may rise up to meetour pressing need. The colleotion that was brought here last week was not all of the art eollection that the late Mr. Lewia had gathered at lus home in Coldwater. A.numbeiof the most valuable pieces were !eft at Coldwater, one of the leñatees of the estate refusing to let them go. He claims that those particular pieees. which consist of several valuable paintinga, rere not a part of the eollection, and were not in Mr. Lewis' gallery proper, but were hun? upon the walls in hi" home and were not includetl in his bequest. Itis clairned on the other hand that the provisions in the will makin the fift cover these particular piecos and that there can be no queston as to the title to them being in the University. The matter will very likely be taken into the courts before a settlement can be reached.
