Kriends of Charley Leffert, a porfiar young rallroad clerk, are telling a good story at hls expense, saya the Loulsvllle Commercial. They say that last Sunday nlght he took a young lady to ohurch. When they entered the church a few drops of rain had fallen. Charley had no umbrella. When church was over several wags In the nelghboVhood stood In front of the church door wlth thelr utnbrellag ralsed. Thls gave the congregation who were about to leave the church the impresslon that It was rainlng. The people In churc.h were afraid to venture out, although the stars tPere shinlng brightly. Of course, Charley and his glrl were among thosê who anxiously walted for the rain to cease, but the wags hung about the door with their raised umbrellas, and no one ventured out. Then to do the proper thing Charley gave a iittle boy a dime and chased hlm to the nearest Irug store to telephone for a coupe. The coupe arrived ín due time and Charley pushed his way through the rowd. When he reached the pavement and looked up the stars shone brlght nd beautiful. but it was toe ate to dismiss the coupe. His ride of three, quares on a beautiful night cost liim 1, and now some of the church peopl ay Charley was putting: on style.
