Ithas long been a query with people who are able to give money to the University tohat would be done with it,that is, how it would be invested and kept permanently safe for that institution. The question has been settled. The last legislatura enaeted a law empowerlng the Regents of the University to disposit with the state treasurer all egacies or donations of money to the University, which shoulcl draw four per cent. interest, permanently. This is, not considered heavy interest, and the state could well have afforded to have been more generous, but it is safe, and four per cent. interest on an absolutely safe investment is not so bad after all. Nuw that a way has been provided to keep all funda given so that they can not be loat, squandered or frittered away, it is hoped that some of the wealthy friends of the U. of M. will recover frora theil' timidity, and come forward with their y ifts. The proper way to do is not to wait until afterdeath, when heirs, and lawyera and this cir cumstance, and that one, may interfere with, the carrying out of the intention, but to give the money now, and see that t ta expended for what you desire it to be. Have the .leasure of seeing with your own eyes the. good work your jïift can aecomplish. That's business, and could the tide le once started it would k' ep on in a steady stream, as it does to Harvard and Yale. and the noble U. of M. be forever the greatest friend in the whole wide world of the student who is so unfortunate - or perhaps fortúnate woulrl be botter- as to be born witnout wealthy parents or relatives. - Courier
