The council was ablo to moet Monday night, nothwithstanding tho great struggls in the ball game during the afternoon. Every member exoept Aid. Prettyman was on hand. A number of petitions relativo to various matters were read by the clerk and referred to the proper commities. Patriok O'He rn was allo wed $121.00 for assistar.ce in making out sewer rolls for the Washington and Liberty-st. sewers. The boads of John O'Brien, aspluruber were accepted. A number of street and sidewalk i-esolutions relativo to grades and repairs were passed. The monthly reports of the city otlioers for the month of .Tune were read by the clerk. The city treasurer reported a balance at time of last report of $23,204.58 and a balance now on hund of $20,134.57. The city elerk's report agreed with that of the city treasurer to a cent. The report of the finanoe committee was a voluminous affair aud showed bilis allowed to the total amount ot 86,967.57. The lárge total is duo to the water bil] which is for six months and amount to 12,865.00. The bilis allowed were as follows from the various f unds: Contingent fund $ 544.72 Sewer fund 230.19 Street fund 1416.92 bridge, Culvert and Cross-walk fund 202.55 Firefund 665 92 Pólice fund 267.00 oor fund 88.76 Vaterfund 2866.00 Cemetery fund 3.00 Total $6284.06 The lighting bilí carne in later and was allowed. It amounted to $562.51. This and the bill of $121 allowed P. ü'- Hearn swelled the total to 86,697.57. Aid. Taylor offered the following resol ution : "In view of. the present condition of gtreetfuod be it resolved that the board of public works is hereby instructed to lo no more general street work unless ordered by the council. exceptlng such as is absolutely needed for public safety-" This resolution was unanimously alopted, and now the weeds may grow as ligh as one head on our side streets and in the gutter and no one will molest them. Aid. Maynard offered a ve-oution that the merabera of the pólice forcé be granted a week's vacation with ay. The resolution was adopted.
