It was night; the stars were covered by a cloud oí mist, the vivid lightnings flashed and Bhook thelr fiery darta upon the earth, the deep-toned thunder rolled along the clouded sky, the elements were in wild commotion, the storm spirit howled in the air, the winds whistled, the hailstones feil like cannon-balls, the huge blllows of the ocean dashed upen ;he rock-bound shores, and torrents ieaped f rom the morntain tops when the murderer sprang fiom his sleepless bed with vengeance on his brow, murder in his lieart, and the feil instrument of destruetion in hls harfff. The storm in?reased, the lightnlng flashed wlth orishter glare, the thunder growled wlth leeper energy, the winrts whistled with i wilder fury - the confusión of the hour was congenial to his soul and the stormy papsions which raged in his bosom. He cllnched his weapon with a sterner .;i:i-p. A dem!ii;n' Bmlle gathered on nis lips, he grated his teeth, raised his irm, sprang with a yell of triumph upon his victim and killed- a mouse!
