Several Negroes Fatuity Injured
Spring Valley, 111., the minmg town which was the scène of so much lawessness during the miners' strike last ,'ear, has again come into notoriety. At the end of the strike last year a arge number of ISÍegroes vvere emiloyed in the places of the strikers. ecently the Xegroes have been committing depredations upon the whites, who are mostly Italians, and a few niglits ago Barney Role, white, was shot by tive Xegroes and robbed of 5100. Vhen the whites heard of this uy demanded that every colored man be discharged, but tliis being reiused about 5U0 whites made a raid upon the "colored location' The mob ransacked the houses, breaking Eurniture and committing other depredations. Several dozen were caught and treated to most violent kicks; stones were hurled at them and shots tired. The boarding house for colored men was then attacked. All the inmates fled for their lives. Six men and two women were fatally injured. It is not likely that the colored men will return.
