Peck, a famous moun talneer, oablea frona Zermatt, Swit.erland, that the has elimbed to the peak of the MaUerhorn, a feat for whieh she has been in training lor years [tiesaid only two women have done this Miss Brevoort, of New York, and MissCacrel, daughter of a Swiss guide. The top of the mountain is H,70ö feet above soa level and is moot ditlieult of access. Miss Peck is a native of ProVldence, and a gradúate of tho University of Michigan. For years she has been an enthuiastic mountain climber. In ls:,. whik: Btudying at Atliens. she ascended Hymettus and Pentíllcus Two years latter, durin-; a trip to the Pacific, she rode 4,000 feet uptothe snow line of Mount Shasta. and then cUmbed the remainingr 14,000 feet to the summlt This ascent, it was said was the ürst made of that ïr.ourüain by a -ornan. Her subsequont ascent of the Uouds Rest peak in the Yosemite valley, also attracted altcntion.
