School Cominissioner Wedemeyer is in the western part the county vistinjr schools. Anothcr ,shoe store will occupy the store room under the city building soon to be vacated by the Chicago Shoe Store. Wm.O.Tubbs,sonof Samuel O.Tubbs, of Scio, died at his home Tuesday of remittent fever. He was only 25 years of agG. The Jackson Citizen announces the marriage at an early date of F. A. Tinker of this city and Miss May Pearl, of Jackson. Two tramps attempted to rob Wm. Binder and Fred. Jackson at the M. C. depot Tuesday night. They did not secure any booty. Frank Matthews and George Glosser, two Ypsilanti boys, were drowned in the Huron river just below that city yesterday inorning. Oscar Holke, who works in the press room of the Register Pub. Co. had a hand crushed Tuesday morning in a press he was running. Warrants are out for the arrest of seven boys who upset and broke the monument at Baumgardner's marble yard a week or two ago. There is a new assistant at the home of City Clerk Mills. She is one day oíd and will not take a position in the city clerk's office for a Httlo time yet. Durinsr the Methodist conference Dr. J. T. Berry of the P2pworth Herald will give his locture "What a Tramp saw in the Emerald Isle" under the auspiccs of the Epworth League. Dr. Berry is a very able speaker and his description of his personal experiences in Ireland will undoubtly prove interesting. The lccture will be given at the M. E. Church Tuesday Sept. lOth at 8 p. m. Tickets on sale at Noble's Star Clothing House, Goodyear's Drug Store, and Calkin's Pharmacy. Admission 25e. ■ While in Ann Arbor last Thursday The Leader had the pleasure of spending an half hour in the studio of Mr. A. L. Alcxander, a rising young sculptor of that city. Among his most recent works is a life slze bust, in clay, of Hon. A. J. Sswyer, of that city, which is aeknowlediied by all to be a work of unusual merit. Mr. Alexanderis a very entertaining talker, full of enthusiasm eoncernintr his work, and a young man who is bound to make his mark in the field of art.- Dexter Leader. The board of directora of the Washtenaw Mutual Fire Ins.Co. at thcir sussion last Thursday ordered an assessment Of 12.31 per $1,000, to be levied on the capital stock. This is the largest assessment that has been necessary for the company to make in a number of years. but then mutual companies must gct off years once in a while and this asscssment makes only M.50 for three years on the thousand dollars, which is certftinlya very low rate. For the past live years the assessments have ao-gre-rated $tU0on $1,000.- Courier. .1 crome Quinn and Paul Sohall did not agree whilo in a saloon on W. Washington-st. last Sunday night. 1 lefore the dispute was ended Quinn had been shot by Schall. The shot would hayo been fatal had not Quinn had a tin type in his pocket. This deñeoted the ball so that no harm was done. Later Quinn gave Schal] a severa thumping. Schall then swore out a complaint dgainst Quinn, and had him arrested.
