The heat the other day caused two rails on the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe, two miles west of Emporia, Kan., to spring about two feet out of line. The pressure was so great that the spikes were torn out and the bending of the rails caused such a loud report that the attention of some trackmen near-by was attracted, and a passenger train, then about due, was flagged just in time to save it. It was moving at a rate of 45 miles an hour and could not have been stopped in time if the tractneA had not been alert. A delay of an 'Tur was caused.
