In Staffordshire and Shropshire. England, they have a most extraordinary cure for toothache. The sufferer watches a mole's runway with a spade nd traps and, as soon as he succeeds n c&pturing one of these reputed eyeess little animáis, cuts off its paw and uickly applies it to the aching molar, n, order to mafce the cvire sure aml ffective, the paw must be amputated while the animal is yet alive; furthermore, if the aching tooth is on the right ide of the jaw, a left-hind mole paw must be used and vice versa. A simar toothache superstition exists in the ape Verde islands and also on th anaries.
