A story was recently told oí how a preacher testt-l the effect of the hard thues upon his congregation. At the conclusión of one of his sermons he eaid: "Let everybody in the house who pay their debts stand up." Instantly every man, woman and ehild, with one exception, arose to their teet. He seated the crowd, and then "Let every man who is not paying stand up." The exception noted. a eareworn, hungry individual, clothed in his last uier snit, slow! y assumed a dicular position and leaned upon the back of the seat in front of him. "llow is it, my friend," inquired the minister, "that you are the only man in this large consregation who is unable 4 meet hi.s obligations?" "I publish a newspaper," he meekly replied, "and my brethren here, who Ihave Jnst stood up, are my subscribers, and " "'Let us pray!" exclaimed th9 inister.
