Col. John Jacob Astor has been more active than any amateur in the country in nis devotion to electric propulsiĆ³n on the water, having experimenteel with every known variety of storage battery and engine. His last attempt in this direction is in quite a large launch, forty-seven feet long and furnished with twin sersws driven by thirty norse power engines actuated by storage cells. The boat is beautiful in construction, can make ten miles an hour, and has the electric quality of noiselessness. Indeed so quietly does she glide about the smooth Hudson that very possibly from hr deck one could piek up a sleeping gull on tne water.
