The Spanish warship Sánchez liar:aizetegui, with Admiral Delgado 'arejo aboard, was struck by the inuoining eoasting steamer Mortera in ront of Moro castle at Havana, Cuba, and sank almost instantly. Admiral 'arejo and .U of the crew and oftioers were drowned. The reraainder of the crew, 11(3 in number, were saved. The Sánchez Karcaizetegui was an iron bark-rigged cruiser of 9-0 tons displacement. She was built at La Seyne in 187H. 8he was :.'():! feet long, S0 f eet wide and had a draft of 12 feet. She carried seven guns.
