Mrs. Catherine Hangsterfer, an old and ,highly respeoted resident of Ann Arbor and one who was intimately connected with its business interests in years gone by, died at her home 31 E. University ave., {yesterday morning at 6 o'clock af ter an illness of eight weeks, of inflammation of the bowels. Mrs. Hangsterfer's maiden name was Barkley and she was born in Hesse Darmstadt, Germany, April 16, 1S25. She carne to this country with her parents and seven brothers and sisters in 1833, the family locating in Pennsylvania. She was married to4 Jacob Hangsterfer at Pittsburg, Pa., in 1848. Thoy came to Ann Arbor in 1854, and started an ice crearn, confectionery and catering business in a small frame house at the corner of S. Main and W. Washington-sts. , where the large b-ick block which bears their name now stands. Frugal, industrious and per severing they workod up a good business and had aceumulated a nice property when Mr. Hangsterfer died in 1873. Asaisted by her sons and daughters Mrs. Hangsterfer still conducted the businees until 1888, when she retired from active business pursuits. Mrs. Hangsteifer was the mothsr of eight children, all of whotn survive her except one son. They are: J. William Hangsterfer, of Detroit, Miss Lizöie Hangsterfer, who lived with her ruotber, Frank (who died in 1888), Mrs. Clara Luyekx, of Detroit, Mrs. Louis Limport and Mrs. Ross Granger, of this city, Mrs. J. C. Stevens, ol Detroit, and Ed. V. Hamgsterfer, of this city. Tho funeral services will be held at the house tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'eleck, Rev. R. M. Beach odïeiating. The remains will be interred in Forest Iïill cemetery. The honorary pall bearers will be Philip Bach, L. 3runer, Moses Seabolt, W. D. Harriman, Chas. H. Worden aj1 T. Jacobs. The actve pall bearers will be her sons and socs-in-law, J. Wm. and Edward V. Hangsterfor, Louis Limpert, Ross Granger, J. C. Stevens and Mr. Luyekx,
