The i "amer Missoula left Sant Ste. Marie Oct. :'.l (or Fort WilUam, bat she never arrived there. For over a week the ownera and others interested were in as to her fate and as the days pa.ssed all hope was glvennp. At last when news dia come it was both bad and good. The Missoula was struck by a heavy northwesteron Lake Superior and her shaft gave away. They tried to live out the storm, but alter being at the mercy of the wind y tul naves for over 30 hours the steamer began to weaken so the crew of 17 managed to get into a yavvl. The Missoula sank 15 miles northwest of Caribou island. After 24 hours of rlrifting and terrible suffering ïfrey broug-ht up at l'oint Cargantua. The second day they made for Lizzard islands, and tlien the captain, mate, engineer, wheelman and watchman .started for the "Soo' in a yavvl, leavtng the other 13 members of the crow with the tisherinen on Liz.urd islands. The yawl arrived at the "Soo" in safety. The Missoula was valued at $10.000 and was insured for $40,000. lier cargo of 70,000 bushels of vrheat was fully insured. A tug was sent up for the rest of the crew.
