íuid fcwistiug of faots to misrepresent the truthj the Argus, as usual, takec the persimmons. Last week it carne ut under glarins; headlines with an nrticle declaritig that the Republioan administration in this county had already cost the county at least $9,000 more than the last year undar , raticadministration. The statements! re so ridiculous that they do not deserve an answer, and wö shall not attempt to reply. For the amusemeut of ur readers, however, we shall show, by giving a few items, how The Argus succeeded in reaching the conclusión that it did. The sherifi each month draws three-fourths of the jail board bill. During the past nine mouths this mounted to about $2,000. The sheriff liad received three-fourths of this. When the supervisors met, he handed In hió bill for the remaining fourth. The board, howover, required hiin to hand in the entire bill of $2,000, his receipts, of course, showing that threequarters had been paid. The Argus at once jurnped to the conclusión that the sherift's entire bill was $3,000 '. The present administration also coaies in as being to bluine for $1.500 expense? for eontagioua diseases. These two Hcins alone make up fully one-third of tne 9,000 extra expeose attributed to the republican aüiniuistratioii by The Argus. Almost every othor item in Ihu ArguB statement is just about as near the trulh. A correct showing1 v.'ill prove fceyond the shadow of a doubt that tb e present republican administration hk been the most economical the county faas had for years. Our only wonder, in readin The Argus article, was that it did not attribute tho datnage done by the reeent earthquake to the republ'can oounty offiüials. '1 his would have been rijrht in keejiing with the statements It made. ______________
