The election Monday had severa surprises in it even for the most astate MoJiticiaus. No one doubted for an in stant that the sixth ward would giv the Republicana a good majorlty Krerybody was equally certain ths,t the Seoond ward, for years the Democratie 9trong-hold of the city, would give even a larger majority for the Democratie candidates. Right here was where cyerybody was mistaken. People have nat yet recovered from their surprise over the vote in that ward which reculted in the Democrats getting the constable only. Out of the fourteen aldermen in the city and the president oí the council, the Republicans wil have ten and tho Demócrata five, with a possibilitp of there being one less ou the Democratie side and one more on the Ropubliean sido. This is due to a tie in the Fifth ward which must be settled by lot. At any rate the Republicans will have a two-thirds majority upon the council even if this chance goes against them. On the vote for supervisor, only one ,'Denocrat in the city, Mr. Boyle, of the üth ward having been able to pull through. The vote upon the question of raising the salary of the Treasurer was very light. Of the votes cast for and against the measure, the result showed a majority f 66 in favor of thoincreas. Itis contended by some however, that in order to carry, the measure must have a majority of all the votes cast at theelection. I f auch is the case then the treasurer will not get his increase. There is a nice legal quettion here to be decided by somebody. The vote in the various wards for supervisors and aldormen stood as follows: First Ward. Republican - Supervisor, John R. Miner 1(58 Alderman, Gao. L. Moore 145 Democratie - Supervisor, Alderman, L. C. Weinmann. . . .117 Seoond Ward. Republican - Supervisor, John M. Peinor 195 Alderman. M. Grossman 188 Democratie - Supervisor, E. Oosterün 170 Alderman, M. Staebler 1 72 Third Ward. Republican - Supervisor. J. J. Fisher 253 Alderman, Dr. J. A. Dell 212 DemocratieSupervisor, Otto Schroeder 121 Alderman, C. J . Snyder 163 Fourth Ward. Republican - Supervisor, H. Krapf 120 Alderman, j H. J. Burke, short term 167 { A. Brown, long " 141 DemocratieSupervisor, Jos. Donelley 124 Alderman, Same a3above. Fifttt Ward. Republican - Supervisor, Geo. H. Rhodes 58 Alderman, Gilbert C. Rhodes. . . .65 Democratie - Supervisor, Jas. Boyle 79 Alderman, T. Godkin 65 Sixth Ward. Republican - Supervisor, A. J. Kitson 106 Alderman. H. Soule 112 Democratie - Supervisor, M. J. Cavanaugh 60 Alderman, B. M. Thompson 52 Seventh Ward. Uepublioan - Supervisor, E. Eberbach 77 Alderman, H. P. Danforth 77 Democratie - Supervisor, F. H. Belser 51 Alderman, L. J. Leisemer 47 In the county the Board of Supervisors is democratie by one majority instead of three as it was last year. In Sylvan the con test was a hot one. This wa9 due to the endeavor of the Republicana to defeat Supervisor Lighthall for re-election and thus weaken his Chances for sheriff this f all. The result was a fight to the finish and resulted in a victory for Mr. Lighthall. In -Lima Mr. Wedemeyer, the Republican canil idate tor supervisor was defeated by only one majority. In the county the supervisors, stand as follows : Ann Arbor Town- ('..). Tuomey, D Augusta- S. S. Bibbins, R. Bridgewater- George Walters. I). Dexter - John Clark, D. Froedora - M. P.
