According to the came Journal the Hoosac tunnel cost 5379 períoot, the Mont Cenls, the next in date, $Ü5G per foot, the St. Gothard f229 per foot anrl the Arlberg $154 per foot. The tunnel on the line of the Northern Pacific railroad through the Cascade ir.cuntuins, S.950 feet long, was bored at the rate o( 413 feet a month at a eost for the complete tunnel of $118 per foot.
