As for the modern undergraduate, as a rule he is the most quiet and peƔceable of mortals and has long since given up such violent delights as wrenching off door-knockers, assaulting policemen or squaring up to bargees. Not that he is the least deficiƫnt in spirit or courage, as those who have watched the football matches in the parks wil! readily testify, but, except at such licensed saturnalia as a college "Uag" or a bump supper, he keeps his voice and temper under perfect control and cultivates a dignifled repose of manner which would do credit to a member of White's or Arthur's. Anything like loudness or ostentation is vetoed aa bad taste and it may be added that his dress is as quiet as his deportment.
