lawrence, Mass., Oct 27.- The Washington milis, which lorm one oí the largest cotton dress goods manufacturing flrms in the city, were badly damaged by lire, which broke out about half an hour before mldnighL Every fire engine in Lawrence was on, the K round for several hours, and it was not until half-paat 1 thla morning that the flames were subdued. The flre started from spontancous combuBtion among wool, and at au eorly hour this morning the stock In mili No. 4 was etill burnlng furioualy, although all danger of the flre upreading was paesed. It is eetlmated that the loss to the Washington Corporation wlll be f65,000, and may possifcly reach 75,000. The loss Is fully covered by Insurance. About 4,500 operatives are employed by the plant wihen it is running to lts full capacity, and all will be thrown oitt of work for ten daye.
