A novelty in the extensión of the telephone, introduced in San Francisco, may be called a kltchen telephone service. For flfty cents per month the local company wijl eupply an tnstru■ent by whlch orders may be glven to the butcher, grooer ot other tradesmen, ut through which no return answer an be recelved. A further concesïlon Is to allow communioatlon witb ome other subscriber, but any other comunication must be at the rate of flve cents per caU. The limit upon the service makes lt improbable that any more than two calis a day wlll be made, and these can be provlded at the low rate. H is inferred that the service is introduced for the purpo&e of educatlng the householder as to the advantage and convenience of the telephone, with the expectation that the trial will lead to a demand for the uuUmited service at the hlgher iate.- i
