Robber Fatally Shot

Cleveland, Oct. 24.- A pitched battle took place early this morning between a equad oí railroad detectives and freight car thieves at Collingwood, a suburb. A fusilade of shots waa i changed, and Michael Ryan, one of the thieves, was fatally shot. The offlcers had watched the gang break open a car and enter. They i then surrounded the car and demanaed ! that the men ínside surrender. This i the robbers refused to do, and began shooting, which was promptly responded to by a volley from the offlcers. The robbers, with the exception oi Ryan, finally jumped from the car and ran. It is believed several of theii number were wounded. Ryan, who was i shot through the abdomen, was taken I to the general hospital, where U is said he cannot recover.
