Mrs. Thomas Hardy seems to be invaluable to her husband, outslde of her housekeeplng capacity. It is his boast that she keepe herself so weĆ¼ posted in the literature of the day that he finds himself constantly drawing from her fund of knowledge. It was Mrs. Hardy who induced her husband to forsake architecture for literature as a profession, and it was she who copied out his first novel and sent it to the publieher.
