Washington, Dec. 16.- Something of a stir was occasioneel tiiis morning wli.sn Senator Allen (pop.) oí Nebraska Offered a resolution for a committee of nine senators "on the use cf money in elections." The, resolution direets that tlio committee shall "thoroughly Investígate tha íxtent to which money, if any, w.v .sed in conneotion with the recent presldentlal election, either in promo i:iff the nominations or in influencirg In any manner the choi'ce of Presiíential eleclors, anrl to inquire whei.irr any such expenditures were exc-sive, Ilegitímate, corrupt, or unlaw ..,, nm ospecially to inquire and aecertain to w)at extent for such purpoaes the owners of silver mines, gold mines, the bankers, the mauufactttrers, tlic rallroad or oiher corporations, and millionaires of al) classes made contri batios; and what contributious, ü any, were macle by persons and corporations reslding abroad." The resolution direets a report by the first Monday of December. 1897. It waa referred.
