Between the years 1755 and 1760 abo n t efghteen hundred army horna were sed in the English and American armles engaged with the French, and probably the same number cxisted in ihe American army during the Revolution. Horns were last used in the war with Mexico in 1848. After that they rapidly disappearei Many were shortened to make them more convenient for hunting purposes; some of them were cleaned, the val. uable records and engravings upon them being scraped off and thus lost.
