Last Sunday's News-Tribuue con tai ried a photograph and the . following sketch of Karl E. Harriman, of this city. It will, no doubt, interest many of our readers : "Karl E. Harriman, of Ann Arbor, is an amateur actor who has already attained a good reputation for natural acting. He has played in amatuer performances for the past seven years, and his characterizations have always been spoken kindly of by the press. Among the personations which might be mentioned are tho Baron in "A Game of Cards,' Bresmouclie in :A Scrap of Paper,' Harry Grantly in 'Pate, ' and Capt. Phobbs in 'Lend Me Five Shillings.' Tho Ann Arbor Times made note a short time ago of 'the purity pf his accent and his thorough familiarity with the stage business, which his friends hail as the indication of a superior talent and the augury of a brilliant caroeiv "It is the intention of Mr. Harriman to ultimately enter the professional class. Just now he is interested in literary work in Ann Arbor, being on tho editorial board of tho weekly and monthly magazine issued by the college, tho Wrinkle and the Inlander. He is at work on a one-act play, whii h will be published ia the Inlander and afterward presented by him in Ann Arbor. Por years hu has been a collector of dramatic literature and now has a collection that is very valuable. 'It is not the salary that attracts me to the stage,' he writes, but the very art of the thing. I know ex'actly the life, and that it is not a thing of get cottages and gardens. Í am ambitious, and will go in to win, knowing full well that in tliiá world one can amount to nothing in Boy line of endeavor without work, work, work'."
