A Christ.maa cantata was rendered by the Congregational Sunday School children at Newberry Hall, last Thursday evening, and was enjoyed by a large audience. No admission fee was eharged, but donations oL provisions of various kinds were received for the poor of the city, and a collection was taken for the same worthy object. The Sunday School orchestra rendered several fine selections between the acts. The stage was tastefully and appropriately set for each scène, the curtayi first rUing on a group of children wlth their sleds and skates. The other scènes represented Santa Claus' workshop where a number of dwarfs were manufacturingr toys, and a home scène on Christmas eve. The children all sang and acted very creditably, and were assisted by the Misses Campbell, Bradshaw,. Ferry, Bliss, Duncan and Bowman, and by Messrs. Bradshaw, Bagley, Vanderwerker and Montgomery. After the cantata had been rendered, popcorn and candy were distributed by Santa Claus, the superintendent and musical director each receiving a large candy cañe, as a fitting reward for their tireless efforts in behalf of the Sunday School.
