Washington, D. C, Dec. 28.- Secretary Olney has denied the story cabled from Europe on the authority of the Paris correspondent of a London nevspaper that the European powers had given notice to the United States not to recognize Cuban belligerency or independence. Germany was represented as ready to go to var to aid Spain in the event of -hostilities with the United Sttes. The state department would regard such European interferencc, in advance of anj deflnite action by this country, as a piece of liopertinence. Buc it iaid positively that no hint on the aiRect has been received from air. European power. The ParĂs Digpntrh. London, Dec. 28.- The Timos' Paris correspondent has wired his paper the following statement: "The Washington government has bpen confidentially informed, although In very friendly terms, that the European powers would not remain passive should the United States recognize or encourage the Cuban insurgents. Tf my informatfon is correct, an intimation has been further given that Germany is quite ready, even now, to take Spain's side should the United States show a disposition offlcially to side with the rebels. These warnings originated in the course of pourparlers for a European coalition against revolutionary socialism."
