In the year 1635 a tulip bulb was sold ia Holland for f 500. It weight was 100 gratas. Tha costliest toy on record was a broken-nosed wooden horse, which belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte, anc was sold a year or two ago for 1,000 francs. The costliest paintings of modern times have proved to be Meissonler's "1814" and Millet's "The Angelus." M. Chauchard gave 850,000 francs for "1814" and 750,000 francs for "The Angelus." The most costly book in the world ia declared to be a Hebrew Bible now in the Vatican. In the year 1512 it is said that Pope Julius II. refused to sell this Hebrew Bible for its weigst in gold, ■Which would amount to L25,000. The largest sum ever asked oroffered for a single diamond is L430,000, which the Nizam of Hyderabad agreed to give to Mr. Jacobs, the famous jeweller of Simia, for the "Imperial" diamond,' which is even now in litigation ia India.
