Still tho topio of buttons comes upper; most. Buttons nro at prosont ono of the most important details of tho toilet. Thoy aro worn on coats, capes, wraps, sacks, [ bodices and even skirts. Ko expenso is i spared to rnako them effectivo and beautiful. Designs of tho Louis Seizo period are carefully imilBlcd and are genuino works of art. The are miniaturas, enamols, nombinations of gold and silver, incrustations of steel on poarl and ivory, artificial jewels of all kinds in all varioties of setting. Buttons of this costly kind are a chnrming finish for vest or corselet and givo a fashionablo effect to Wie entiro costume. It is difficult to describe all the forms which tho ubiquitous bolero assumes. Most often lt is square and fltted at tha back like a bodice, showing the belt only occasionally as tlio wearer moves. lts other namcs aro figaro, Kpauish jacket, oriental or Circassian vest, but in all casos it is practically the samo abbreviated, close garment. The largest - that is, those reachlng to the waist lino - areof cloth, rol vet or Woolen material, like the gown. They are trimmed with soutache, jnotifs of velvet and lace and perhaps rovers or a collar of fur. The short bolero, terminating far aboye tho belt, is made entirely of fur, of embroiderod clothor of velvet entirely covered with ornamentation. lts cut must ba perfect, for it must fit like a cuirass in order to have a good effect, and a wrinkle spoils it. These boleros aro worn with Hght bodices or chemisettes, but the cos tumo is more elegant when the bolero and the gown are of the samo color, although they need not be of the same material. Tho princess costume illustrated is oí gray corkscrew. The front forms a plastrón and is cut In one with the tabs that form the sleeve caps. The plastrón and slcevo caps are outlined with black silk oord and bordered with a doublé ruffle of blaok mousseline do soie. Tho turned over points of the collar are of black satin, as aro tho cuffs of the close gray sleeves. The gray feit hat is trimmed with mauve velvet aad white and black plumes.
