Melzingah reservoir in Fishkill mountains, near Matteavvan, N. Y. , burst at 3 a. m. The water ran into the creek and two miles below, near Duchess Junction, washed away brickyard buildings, inuluding a boardinghouse occupied by laborers without a moment's warning, and nine persons were drowned. Two hundred yards of the Hudson River railroad track at Duchess Junction were washed away. Tons of earth and sand were washed down in the flood, and trains were stalled all the way froin Fishkill to Poughkeepsie. One of these was a Cook excursión train, the passenger on which expected to sail from New York for Europe the next day.
