A HUMAN AKKOW. Marvcloiis Vllglit of a Vouiis Lady Tlirougli tlic Air After Being Shot Froiu a rosslxnv. With every limb and every musclo as rigid as cord wood, closely set teeth, ( and feet planted firmly, a beautifuí' young lady is secured to that portion of a huge Roman crossbow, mado for aa arrow to rest upon. The great strings are then pulled back until caught in a groovo and the gigantic bow is bent until the ends almost meet. The crossbow is now sighted at a target placed 80 foet from the ground, and tbe head of the young lady pointcd directly at the buli's eye. When everything is adjusted with the greatest care nicety of calculation, a signal is given, the corda are loosened, the great bow suddenly relaxes witb awful forcé, and the heroic young lady is rapidly projected upward and forward with tremendous celerity, and describing a curve in her terriflc llight unerringly pierces the center of the target head tiist. The forco with which sht strikes the target is such that she penetrates it, going entirely through and beyond until finally stopped in her meteoric flight by being caught by the hands of her sister, who hangs head downward from a trapeze. That is ono of the many startling new aerial acts to bc seen with the Barum & Bailey Greatest Show on Earth this year, but thero are others equally as thrilling of a different kind. The show this season is given in three rings, and upon three stages, and contains besides the bippodrome races. These are the iincst menageries in the world, 24 elephants, and 70 trained horses which perforni in one ring at one time. Altogcther the mamoth atlair is bristling with oew features, preserving its distiuetiyo character, however, of being educational as well as instructive. It wiil ali'be here undivided, with 64 railroad cars, on Tuesday, August 17 at Ann Arbor, with the new parade in the morninr, on the principal streets. : -OPPERAS . . . v - I (S A good deodorizer for 9 vaults, cesai)ools, drains ] etc. 5c a Ib. 6 Iba. 25c. !
