The harvest social held in Meed's grove by the Northfleld people on Monday was a financial and social success. Seven hundred chiefly from the country attended. The prosramme at 3:30 was opened by Miss J. Ball, of Hamburg, with a soprano solo and til young lady was greatly applauded H. Meuth sang the "Passing Policeman," and was encored but did not respond. M. J. Cavanaugh was det;ii ned in Grand Rapids on' legal business and could not attend. Rev. Fr. Comerford, of Pinckney, was next called upon for an impromptu Labor Day speech which he delivered in a humorous style that provoked great laughter. Mart Ryan, of Northfleld, spoke on the '-Value of a Reputation," and did remarkably well, J. E. Harkins could not come because his littlc child was very sick and a song was re quested from Fr. Goldrick. He sanj, two songs of a comic character and caused great laughter by coupling Mr. Mike DufFy's name with one of them. EL Conlin was toastmaster and showed himself an adept in that special duty. P. O'Neil and son Tora danced some fine Irish jigs. Wm. VValsh took charge of the bowery. P. Duflfy auctioned some choice cakes after lunch and they sold rapidly. and Rooney furnished the music, the piano used being donated for the occasion by the Ann Arbor Music Co. Every one had a good time and went home well :)leased, while three hundred dollars was realized from the dinner.
