Mrs. Frank Haws took her children and went to keep house for Iliram McKinna, a farmer ncar Ilarrisville. Haws became jealous and attempted to kill McKinna, but his aim was too poor. Later 12 masked men called at the McKinna house abont 10 p. in. and Mrs. Haws, who was alone with her children, went to the door in her night dress. Two men pulled her out doors and the gang started down the road with her in her bare feet. Another party, also masked, met McKinna on his way ho;ne f rom Ilarrisville. They pulled hún f rom his road cart, stripped from him all his clothes and whipped him most uninercifully. They then marched the conple down the road three miles using the whip on both the whole distance. They cut all the hair off Mrs. Haws1 head and committed other indignities and then tied the couple to a telegraph pole and told them they could stay there till moming-. When they stripped MeKinna, he managed to slip a small penknife out of his vest pocket and to conceal it in his hand. After they had all left he cut the rope which bound his hands and feet, and then f reed the woman, who returned home more dead than alive. Two women called on her the next day and told her if she was not out of town within two days they would cali on her again. McKinna has disappeared. Filial Duty Cotiquera Cupid - A Suicide Wm. Wright and Charles Orth were rivals for the hand of Miss Olive Webb, a pretty young lady of Muir. The rivalry grew intense and bitter feeling existod between the young men. Wright was the favored one, however, and all arrangements were made for the wedding. The aged mother of Miss Webb is totally blind and needed her daughter's services at home. A struggle between love and duty led Miss Webb to change her mind and she told Wright she f.ould not marry him while her mother lived. Wright went to his home near North Plain in a very despondent frame of mind. Soon afterward his father, upon going to the barn, was horrified to see his son 's body hanging íroin a beam. C. SI. Ti.
