A Queer Character

(Jaleb Krause, whodiecl at Manchester Sunday, was one of the oldest men tliat ever lived in this county. He was a queer mixture of shrewdness and insanity. Once lie was taken to the asylum at Pontiac but oscaped and in telling of his adventure said: "I told the boss that I was a fine milker and liked to niilk cows better than any other work. So he took me out to the barn to milk. I pretended I was trying tomilk and said, 'The milk wont come; tliere is something wrong with the cow's teats.' He stooped over to look, and I sent a stream of milk into both his eyes. Before he could see I was out of sight and they couldn't catch me." His wife applied forand was granted a dívorce. Then she feil in love with Caleb and married him again. After ward she got another divorce, but again her ex-husband's eharmg were too great, and they were once more remar ried. A third time sho applied for a divorce, but the judge decliiied to hear the case, it was a waste of time to divorce and remarry the flckle pair.
