At the qu&rterly conference of the Methodist church laat evening an invitatlou was extended to Dr. C. T. Allea to become the pastor of the churcb, and a committee consisting of Ancil Williams, W. J. Clarke and Alben Graves, was appointed to attend the Annual Conference at Port Huron, Sept. 15th, and to solicit the Bishop to make the appointment of Dr. Allen as pastor. Ypsilanti Commercial. The formal opening of the Grand Opera House will take place Monday, September 20th. Manager Byers stated that the performance last Monday night was not intended as the fall opening of the play house. Charles E. Blaney, in "The Boy Wanted," will be the attraction on this occasion. Monday afternoon snoak thleves entered the residence of James 1. Irwin, compositor on The Commercial, and carried off $18.50, whlch Mr. Irwin had in a drawer. No other property was taken. It is evident that the thievos were looking for cash only, and knew right where to find it. Mr. Irwin says he will place his money in a savings, bank hereafter. Stockbridge Sun. A severo clectric storm jtassed over this village, yesterday. The house occupicd by Miner Rose Jr. was struck by lightning, and Mrs. Reme waa somewhat shocked. It tore off the ehingles and plasteriner and damaged the house about $25 worth. Luckily it was insured against lightDing. SA1.INK OBSERVER. Geo. Feuerbacher who has for several weeks been a patiënt sufferer from a aerious stomach trouble, died Wednes day morning at eight o'clock. After death Dr. Sheeder held a postmortem which clearly revealed the cause of nis death to have come from cáncer of the etomach and Pancreas. Dundee Reporter. A traveling oculist, A. Crossman, of Detroit, who ridea through the country in a covered cart, came into town Tuesday morning and claims ttaat ha was held up upon the road that morning two milea west of Monroe, and his money demandad. His revolver being presented in the face of the highwayman brought the proceedings to a close. He searcbed the fellow finding no weapons with him. Both went on their respective ways. Dexter Leader. Thos. Welch, of Webster township, feil f rom a stack last Thursday af ternoon and broke one of his legs below the knee. Drs. John Lee and J. W. Lae reduced the fracture. Died at her home in Lansinj, A.ucr. 29th,r Mrs. Ella Carleton. Deceased was in former years well known in Dexter and vicinity as sister of Marvin and Jason Caldwell, all being residents here. Ella Caldwell was born in 1851 and married to Arthur Carleton in 1869 and has since residod in Lanaing. Duriog the month of August, the amount of wheat Bhipped from the Michigan Central eievatora here has averged a carload a day for erery day in ttia month. This is one of the ïargest month's traffic in the history of the station. FOWLERVILLE OBSERVER. Cari Dennis the 4 year oíd son of Mrs. E. Maltby died at his home in this village Monday, A ugust 3Oth, from injuries received by a fall while playing. Edward Sculley'a barn at Webbervllle, burned last Saturday night about eleven o'clock, together with 650 bushels of wheat, 800 buahels of oats, five tons of hay and four valuable horses.
