The first party of Michigan prospeetors to arrive from the newly discovered gold regiĆ³n at Lake Wawa, 6even miles from the shores of Lake Superior, back Michipicoten, Ont., was a party of eleven residents of the "Soo.' They substantiate without exception all that has been said of the great richness of the jiew gold field. They were among the lirst outsiders to arrive at Wawa and all secured promising claims, which were staked out and for which application will be entered at once. In all the party will make application for 4,000 acres. Three members of the party were left on the ground to protect their interests. Many samples of quartz were brought back by them and they say that where the veins are laid bare the gold particles can be seen everywhere In the quartz. The distancf from the mouth of the Michipicoten river to Lake Wawa is nol to exceed seven miles and the party experienced no cHfHeulty getting in and out. With their camp equipage the trip was made in about three hours time. The location is such that mining machinery can be eheaply transported there. The quartz is of a nature that is easlly mined and millee and from all appearances there are inexhaustible stores o' it. Large numbers of prospecting parties are flocking into the Lake Wawa district by every boat and a lively miuing camp of goodly proportions has al' ready sprung up.
