Accordtng to a recent consular report, Cuba, although its entire ajea is only about equal to that of the state of Pennsylvania, contains 13,000,000 acres of primeval forests, "where the woodnian's ax has never been heard." In these forests, which cover nearly half the entire surface of the island, are found among other timber, mahogany, cedar, redwood, logwood, ebony, lignum-vitae, and a tree with extremely durable wood called caiguaran.
