Owing to long continued drought all vegetation about Winnipejï, Man., became parched to tinder $nd a smalt prairie fire was fauned into. a widespread conflagration by high winds causing awful devastation and death. Farm houses, ijnplernents, crops and live stock were ever.ywhere oonsunied and many faruifl'S lost their all. A most lamentable story comes from Beousejour, 40 miles east of Winnipag, where two women and five children named Moresln were burned to death. There were many narrow escapo Carcasses of horses, cattlp and hee.p are lying over the disirict and a number of families of foreigners are home-: less aud utterly destitute. At, 'Uiol, 70 miles west, the CamuVuia lJacific railway station and seven cars, the Dominion Grain Co. 's elevator with 20,000 bushels of wheat, Lawrie' store, Higginbotham's, Liin.Jc'n u(l Buchanan'.s stables, a Lold storage warehouse and i4iany farm buildings and the crops were totally destroyed. The little town was practically wiped. out of existencc. Severl other points report hoavy loss and in some district not a farmer eseaped loss by the fiery wavft.
