Aid. Moore moved that Aid. Cady act as President pro tem. COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE MAYOK. To the Honorable, the Common Council of the City ofAnn Arbor. Gentlemen :- I hereby appoint Martin Clark special policeman without oost to the city, to serve in connection with his duties as truant officer of this district. Yery rcspectfully, Chas. The Board of Public Works would recommend that the contract for constructing the building back of the Engine House, be let to Wm. F. Key, City Eng. Aid. Koch moved that Rule 21 be suspended for this session. Adopted. Aid. Koch moved that the bill of Schaeidr Bros. be allowed. Adopted as follows: Yeas- Aid. Moore, Hamilton, Grossman, Koch, Dell, Vandawarker, Rhodes Spathelf, Soule, Danforth, Cady- 11. Nays- None. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES. ORDINANCE. Chairman Cady presented an ordinance entitled "An Ordinance Relative to Livery, Feed and other Barns" which was given its second reading by sections. STREETS. To the Common Council : Your Committee oa Streets would recommend that Ohristian Brenner be perinitted to build a hay scales in front of his property on Ashley street, the same not to extend beyond the curb line, and further your Committee would recommend that Ashley street be graveled for six rods south irotn Liberty street and that $10 be appropriated to grade the gutter on the north side of Washington street west ot the Ann Arbor Railroad. SIDEWALKS. ïo the Common Council: Your Committee on Sidewalks would recommend that the grade on Arbor st. be changed and herewith submit the proper resolution lixing and establishing the same. And further your Committee would recommend that a brick crosswalk be ordered built on the north side of Liberty across First. (Built diagonally). Also that the following plank crosswalks be laid: On the east side of Pontiac st. across Plum. On the east side of Pontiac st. across Apple. Also that the cement crossing on the north side of William st. across Main st. be repaired. And [urther that the stone approach at the northwest corner of State and , William sts. be replaced with cement. And that the following crossing be re pa ir ed with tat: On the east side of Detroit across Fuller. And f urtlier that the Street Commissioner be instructed to do the neeessary grading for the new walks on the east side of Detroit st. Your Committee would also j mend that Mack & Co. bb ordered to builil a plank sidewalk on the west side of First st. in front of their property known as the wool house, llespectfuliy snbuiitted, F. M. Hamilton, John Koeh, Frank Vandawarker, George Spathelf, Jr., H. P. Dauforth, Committee on Sidewaiks. Aid. Moore moved that the portion relative to a diagonal walk be voted on separately. Adopted. Whereupon the report was adopted as follows: Yeas- Aid. Moore, Hamilton, Grossman, Koen, Dell, Brown, Vandawarker, Rhodes, Spathelf, Soule, Danforth, Cady- 12. Nays- None. The following sulewalksbe repaired: West Fifth st. in front of following property: 510, 515, 516, 520, 521, and on S. First st. in front of 400, also in front of Julius Krueger"s, and new sidewalk be ordered built in front of Julius lladke's property. SIDEWALK GRADE RESOLUTION. By Alderman Ilamilton: Whereas, it is the opinión of the Council that the grade of the sidewalk on the south side of Arbor st. ought to be changed and lixed and establislied, to the end that such street may be suitable for public travel. Therefore, Resolved, and it is hereby ordered that the grade of the sidewalk on and along the south side of Arbor st. from east line of Statest, to the soulhwest line of Oakland ave. be, and the same is hereby changed, lixed and established, so that the grade of said side walk on and along the street aforesaid sluül be as follows, that is to say: At s e cor. State and Arbor st 832.00 Í 't. t west lino of lot 31), Tappan Park ...84(1 50 ft. At s w cor. Oaldand ave. and Arbor st. 840.00 i t. the elevation given being above the official city datum and along the center line of Buch walk, aud the grado Unes to consist of straight lines between the several poiuts or stations above stated. Adopted as follows: Yeas- Aid. Mooie, Hamilton, Grossman, Kocli, Dell, Hrown, Vandawarker, Rhodes, Spathelf, Soule, Danforth, Cady-12. Nays- Noiifi. That portiou of the report relative to the diagonal walk was adopted as follows: Yeas- Aid. Ilamilton, Grossman Koch, lirown, Vaudawarker, Rhodes Spathelf, Soule, Danforth, Cady- 10. Nays - Aid. Moore, Dell, Sweet- 3. RESOLUTIONS. By Aid. Soule: Resolved, that the Committee on Or dinance and the City Attorney are re quested to prepare an ordinance whicl sLall require all bicycle riders to carry a liglit whileriding wheels ia the cor porate limits of this city after dark am that a proper penalty be provided í'or any infringinent of this ordinance anc report the same to this council at the next meeting of this council. Referred to the Ordinance CommittG6. Aid. Rhodes moved that tbc Board of Public Works be instructed to rake the stone oö' Pontiac, Broadway and south First, and draw the same to tbe stone yard. Adopted . Aid. Koch moved that the Board of Public Works be instructed to build er repair all sidewalks ordered by Ibis eouncil vvhere the term of notice has expired. Adopted as follows : Yeas- Aid. Mooie, Ilamilton, Grossman, Koch, Dell, Svveet. Brown, Vandawarker, llhodes, Spathelf, Soule, Danforth, Cady- 18. Nays- None. Aid. Brown moved that the Street Commissioner be instructed to repair the sidevvalk on W. iluron st. across Allen's Creek. Adopted. On motion the Couneil adjourned.
