Miners from Dawson City who came back on the steamer Parrallon frora Dj'ea report that before they left, Hansen, one of the managers of the Alaska Commercial Co., arrived at Dawson City in a canoo and told of the abandonment of efforts to get food up the river. Fully 400 miners at once made preparations to start back over the trails, but the citizens' committee refused to allow them suföcient provisions for the journey. Chas. Fries, of Tacoma, sa.ys that besides the famine, a mysterious disaase has broken out and is carrylng off an average of five men daily. Twenty-four hours after the victim is attacked he turns black from the waist to the throat and two days later, in a majority of cases, is dead.
