The Good Government Club met Thursday night for the first time this year. A good audience was present and students are showing an enthusiasm in the work of the club which promisea well for the future. After a brief address by President Byam, Dean Hudson and acting President Hutchins spoke. The latter urged the necessity for students and others' to realize their political responsibility. This government is emphatically one of the people. Kach cilizen is Hable to be thrust into public life. Tho great reepons i bility resting on the moa in their use of the electivo franchise ia not undorstood. The stabüity of our government is assured by reason of the faut that it is based on the general education of the masses. General cducation f rom the cominon schools to the university is justiüed because tho oitizenahip is improved thereby. President Hutchins urged on all young men the duty to take part in public affairs in return for tho education whieh the state has furnished them. The solutioc of the greiit municipal questions will be solved by light thrown on them by students going1 out of our universities. Young men should take advautage of every opportuaity to learn of practical public alïairs. In summing up the advantages of the Good Government club IVcáident Hutchins said that the very existence of such a club is a significant fact and its influence can not fail to result in good. It furnishes a much needed chance for studonts to study public affairs and it exerts a wholesome influence on university politics.
