James Davis, a printer, who hung around a hotel and did chores for his board, died Sunday at Pinckney. His body wil] probably go to the U. of M. pickling vat. He is the son of a man who was formerly honored here Lorenzo Davis carne to ;Ypsilanti, írom New York, in 1828. He was a preacher but ten years later he became a newspaper man, owning the Ann Arbor Journal and later the Michigan State News. He was elected register of deeds, was secretary of the pioneer society, and was otherwise honored. But the old man was a poor manager and he died in the poor-house. Two sons ended their days in the same place. One graduated in the U. of M. , went west and was a successful teacher but died young. James, who died Saturday, was little better than a tramp. Now the only living son of this formerly honored but unfortunate man, is a feeble old epileptic who, following in the footsteps of father and brothers, awails, in the counny poor house, the death which can not be far cff.
